The Fatima Prophecies

May 2000: Vatican finally revealed the third prophecy of Fatima and mixed reactions were expressed by believers -- some say it was a relief while others say it was anticlicmatic disappointment.

The "miracle at Fatima" is arguably the most well-known apparition of the Blessed Mother. Her appearance to three shepherd children in Portugal in 1917 was, according to many witnesses, accompanied by several unexplained events, including a shared vision of the sun dancing and moving about erratically in the sky.

During her many appearances to the children, "Our Lady" bestowed upon them three prophecies.

The first two were disclosed by Lucia dos Santos, the eldest of the three children, after she wrote them down in the early 1940s, but the third and final prophecy was not to be revealed until 1960.

Well, 1960 came and went, and the third prophecy was not revealed because the Vatican said the world was not quite ready for it.

This reluctance to disclose the secret lead to speculation among the faithful that it contained information about our future that was so horrific that the Pope dared not reveal it. Perhaps it foretold a nuclear war... or the end of the world.

The First Prophecy
In the first prophecy, the children were shown a terrifying vision of Hell and were told that's "where the souls of poor sinners go." Then they were told that the world war then taking place - what we now call World War I - would soon end. "The war is going to end," Lucia quoted the Blessed Mother as saying, "but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the reign of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given to you by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father."

Did this prophecy come true? World War I did indeed end and was followed by a worse war, World War II. But remember that Lucia revealed this prophecy in writing during 1940 - after the Second World War had already begun. Also, it's interesting that Pius XI is actually named in the prophecy. When the apparition of Our Lady allegedly made the prophecy in 1917, Benedict XV was Pope. Pius XI became Pope in 1922. So either Our Lady also predicted the name of the future Pope, who reigned until 1939, or Lucia did some prophecy fulfilling of her own.

What about the sign of "a night illuminated by an unknown light" before the outbreak of war? According to Fatima Prophecies, "on January 25, 1938, a remarkable display of aurora borealis was visible across Europe, the year before World War II began." The Secrets of Fatima elaborates: "This aurora appeared as far south as Galicia, Spain, where Sister Lucy was then cloistered, and she, the only survivor of the three Fatima shepherds, recognized it immediately as the sign. Visible even to Pius XI in Rome, the unprecedented aurora was accompanied by a ‘crackling' sound, possibly attributable to discharges of atmospheric energy. Indeed, in many areas of Europe, panic broke out, as the populace concluded that the world was on fire and that the End had come." This display of northern lights might have illuminated the night in some spectacular fashion, but even in 1917 the aurora borealis was hardly an "unknown light." Also, again, Lucia revealed this prophecy after the fact.

The Second Prophecy
"When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God that he is about to punish the world. To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays [of each month]. If My requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated."

Many believers assert that this prophecy foresees the spreading of Communism by Russia, which had become the Soviet Union. Wars were, of course, fought to halt the spread of Communism. Then in 1984, Pope John Paul II consecrated the Soviet Union. Subsequently, in 1991, the Soviet Union disintegrated into 15 separate countries, but it can hardly be said that Russia has undergone a religious conversion. Has there been peace as predicted? While there haven't been any worldwide wars, there have been many minor ones (if any war can be considered minor) and the world still is not a peaceful place.

When it comes down to it, the accuracy of the first two Fatima prophecies rests on faith. Skeptics can poke large holes into them while believers hold them up as proof that Heaven has a vested interest in life on the Earth. So what of the third prophecy?

The Third Prophecy
In 1944, Lucia wrote out the third prophecy, as she said she heard it as a 10-year-old girl in 1917, sealed it and presented it to Portugal's Bishop of Leiria. She told him that Our Lady's instructions were that it was not to be revealed to the public until 1960. The Bishop turned over the prophecy to the Vatican. In 1960, Paul John XXIII opened the sealed prophecy and read it, and the faithful anxiously awaited its promised revelation. But it was not to be. In apparent defiance of the Blessed Mother's instructions, the Pope refused to reveal the contents of the prophecy saying, "This prophecy does not relate to my time." According to Kathleen A. Keating, however, author of The Final Warning: Your Survival Guide to the New Millennium, "John XXIII fainted when he read the third secret because it specifically states, according to eyewitnesses, that the Pope would betray the flock and turn his sheep over to the slaughter devised by Lucifer himself. John XXIII fainted because he thought he would be the Pope who would open the door to Satan and that he would be the long awaited antipope."

It has been speculated that subsequent Popes also read the prophecy and likewise chose not to make it public. Now, 40 years later, the complete text of the prophecy has been released, but the controversy surrounding it is far from over.

On May 13, 2000 (the anniversary of the assassination attempt on him), the Pope visited the shrine at Fatima and made a surprise announcement that the secret would finally be revealed. The Vatican then told the world that the secret was a foretelling of the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II. The referred-to passage states: "...the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him..."

This scenario hardly describes the attack on John Paul by a lone gunman, Mehmet Ali Agca, right in St. Peter's Square in May, 1981. The setting is not the same, there was no group of soldiers and the Pope, though seriously wounded, was not killed. Ironically, however, Ali Agca - even before the revelation of the secret was made - had said that he was compelled to try to kill the Pope as part of some divine plan, and that the act was related to the third secret of Fatima. And the Pope, shortly after he was shot, said he believed it was the hand of the Virgin Mary that deflected the attacker's bullet, allowing him to survive.

The Controversy
Since the revelation, the Vatican has been quick to downplay the significance of the prophecy. For one thing, Catholics are under no obligation to believe in the events at Fatima - they can take them or leave them since they are not part of church doctrine. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, a prefect for the Doctrine of Faith, said about the prophecy: "Those who expected exciting apocalyptic revelations about the end of the world or the future course of history are bound to be disappointed. Fatima does not satisfy our curiosity in this way, just as Christian faith cannot be reduced to an object of mere curiosity. There is no immutable destiny. In the end, prayer is more powerful than bullets and faith more powerful than armies." He seemed to be implying that the prayers of the faithful had deflected the terrible scene warned of in the prophecy.
Many Fatima devotees are not satisfied with what the Vatican has chosen to reveal, suspecting that they have either altered the message or not disclosed it in its entirety. Why, after all, were five successive Popes so reluctant to make the prophecy public? Ratzinger explained that the secret was kept because of the fuzziness of the message, which he said could by deciphered "only in the light of history." And when he was asked if the Fatima secrets pertained only to the past, he replied, "I think so."

Some Fatima devotees are not buying that explanation, however. "We still have a bigger punishment in store for us if we don't turn away from sin," said Christopher Ferrara, a spokesman for the Fatima Center in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. Others at the center called the Vatican's interpretation "a whitewash."

By contrast, Ratzinger put a positive spin on the prophecy. "It encourages us by showing that even in a world which was half destroyed," he said, "there is a greater force and death does not have the last word. At the end of a century and a millennium, we were able to propose this text to humanity and to the Church in a positive spirit. It indicates that we should use the power of love against the power of violence."

Kathleen A. Keating wrote of the recent revelation: "The Third Secret of Fatima is still a secret. In the press release issued by the Vatican today, the public was made privy to, at best, a watered down version of one sentence of the true secret. This ridiculous revelation bears no resemblance to the remarks made by Pope John Paul II in Fatima, May 13, 2000, when he said that we are in fact in the midst of Revelation-Chapter 12, verse 3: And another sign in heaven; and behold a great Red Dragon, having seven heads, and ten horns; and on his heads seven diadems… I have a source, deep inside the Vatican, who let me know some time ago that what would be revealed today would only distantly resemble the actual Third Secret, that it would be pared down, containing very little fact."

Were the messages at Fatima prophecies of our future, warnings about possible outcomes or just imaginings inspired by the faith of three small children? Like most such things, it comes down to what you choose to believe.

H. P. Blavatsky

Helena Petrovna von Hahn was born at Ekaterinoslav, a town on the river Dnieper, in Southern Russia, on the 12th of August, 1831. She was the daughter of Colonel Peter von Hahn, and Helena de Fadeyev, a renowned novelist.

On her mother’s side, she was the granddaughter of the gifted Princess Helena Dolgorukov, a noted botanist and writer. After the early death of her mother in 1842, Helena was brought up in her maternal grandparents’ house at Saratov, where her grandfather was Civil Governor.

Helena was an exceptional child, and at an early age was aware of being different from those around her. Her possession of certain psychic powers puzzled her family and friends. At once impatient of all authority, yet deeply sensitive, she was gifted in many ways. A clever linguist, a talented pianist and a fine artist, she was yet a fearless rider of half-broken horses, and always in close touch with nature.

At a very early age she sensed that she was in some way dedicated to a life of service, and was aware of a special guidance and protection.

When almost eighteen, she married the middle-aged Nikifor V. Blavatsky, Vice-Governor of the Province of Yerivan, in a mood of rebellious independence and possibly with a plan to become free of her surroundings.

The marriage, as such, meant nothing to her and was never consummated. In a few months she escaped and travelled widely in Turkey, Egypt, and Greece, on money supplied by her father.

On her twentieth birthday, in 1851, being then in London, she met the individual whom she had known in her psycho-spiritual visions from childhood --- an Eastern Initiate of Rajput birth, the Mahatma Morya or M. as he became known in later years among Theosophists. He told her something of the work that was in store for her, and from that moment she accepted fully his guidance.

Later the same year, Helena embarked for Canada, and after adventurous travels in various parts of the U.S.A., Mexico, South America and the West Indies, went via the Cape and Ceylon to India in 1852. Her first attempt to enter Tibet failed. She returned to England via Java in 1853. In the Summer of 1854, she went to America again, crossing the Rockies with a caravan of emigrants, probably in a covered wagon.

In late 1855, she left for India via Japan and the Straits. On this trip she succeeded in entering Tibet through Kashmir and Ladakh, undergoing part of her occult training with her Master. In 1858 she was in France and Germany, and returned to Russia in the late Fall of the same year, staying a short time with her sister Vera at Pskov.

From 1860 to 1865, she lived and travelled through the Caucasus, experiencing a severe physical and psychic crisis which placed her in complete control over her occult powers. She left Russia again in the Fall of 1865, and travelled extensively through the Balkans, Greece, Egypt, Syria and Italy and various other places.

In 1868 she went via India to Tibet. On this trip H.P.B. met the Master Koot Hoomi (K.H.) for the first time and stayed in his house in Little Tibet. In late 1870 she was back in Cyprus and Greece. Embarking for Egypt, she was shipwrecked near the island of Spetsai on July 4, 1871; saved from drowning, she went to Cairo where she tried to form a Societe Spirite which soon failed.

After further travels through the Middle East, she returned for a short time to her relatives at Odessa, Russia in July, 1872. In the Spring of 1873, Helena was instructed by her Teacher to go to Paris, and on further direct orders from him, left for New York City where she landed July 7, 1873.

H.P. Blavatsky was then forty-two years old and in controlled possession of her many and most unusual spiritual and occult powers. In the opinion of the Mahatmas, she was the best available instrument for the work they had in mind, namely to offer to the world a new presentation, though only in brief outline of the age-old Theosophia, "The accumulated Wisdom of the ages, tested and verified by generations of Seers...," that body of Truth of which religions, great and small, are but as branches of the parent tree.

Her task was to challenge on the one hand the entrenched beliefs and dogmas of Christian Theology and on the other the equally dogmatic materialistic view of the science of her day. A crack, however, had recently appeared in the twofold set of mental fortifications. It was caused by Spiritualism, then sweeping America. To quote Helena’s own words: "I was sent to prove the phenomena and their reality, and to show the fallacy of the spiritualistic theory of spirits."

In 1868 she went via India to Tibet. On this trip H.P.B. met the Master Koot Hoomi (K.H.) for the first time and stayed in his house in Little Tibet. In late 1870 she was back in Cyprus and Greece. In September and October, 1880, H.P.B. and Colonel Olcott visited A.P. Sinnett and his wife Patience at Simla in northern India. The serious interest of Sinnett in the teachings and the work of the Theosophical Society prompted H.P. Blavatsky to establish a contact by correspondence between Sinnett and the two Adepts who were sponsoring the Society, Mahatmas K.H. and M. From this correspondence Sinnett wrote The Occult World (1881) and Esoteric Buddhism (1883), both of which had an enormous influence in generating public interest in Theosophy.

The replies and explanations given by the Mahatmas to the questions by Sinnett were embodied in their letters from 1880 to 1885 and were published in 1923 as The Mahatma Letters to A.P. Sinnett. The original letters from these Teachers are preserved in the British Library where they can be viewed by special permission in the Department of Rare Manuscripts.
In May, 1882, a large estate was bought in southern India at Adyar, near Madras, and the Theosophical Headquarters were moved there at the end of the year. This center became soon the radiating point for a world-wide activity.

Madame Blavatsky and Colonel Olcott engaged in trips to various outlying districts, founded Branches, received visitors, conducted an enormous correspondence with inquirers, and filled their Journal with most valuable and scholarly material the main purpose of which was to revitalize the dormant interest on the part of India in the spiritual worth of their own ancient Scriptures.

It is during this period that Colonel Olcott engaged in widespread mesmeric healings until February, 1884, when he left for London to petition the British Government on behalf of the Buddhists of Ceylon (Sri Lanka). H.P. Blavatsky, then in rather poor health, went to Europe with him.

After staying almost five months in Paris and London, H.P.B. visited the Gebhard family in Elberfeld, Germany during the late Summer and early Fall of 1884 and was busily engaged in writing her second work, The Secret Doctrine.

Meanwhile, a vicious attack on her by Alexis and Emma Coulomb (two of her staff members at Adyar) was rapidly building up. She returned to Adyar on December 21, 1884 to learn the details of the situation. She wished to sue the couple, already dismissed from Adyar for their gross libel on her concerning the supposed fraudulent production of psychic phenomena. H.P.B. was, however, overruled by a Committee of leading T.S. members, and in disgust resigned as Corresponding Secretary of the Society. On March 31, 1885, she left for Europe, never to return to Indian soil.

The Coulomb attack, as was later proved, had no solid foundation whatsoever. It was based on forged and partially forged letters, purporting to have been written by H.P. Blavatsky, with instructions to arrange fraudulent psychic phenomena of various kinds. A Christian missionary magazine in Madras published the most incriminating portions of these letters.

Meanwhile, the Society for Psychical Research (London) had appointed a special committee to investigate Madame Blavatsky’s claims. Then, in December, 1884, Richard Hodgson, a member of this S.P.R. committee, arrived in India to inquire into and report on the Coulombs’ allegations. Based upon Hodgson’s findings, the S.P.R. committee in its final report of December, 1885, branded Madame Blavatsky "one of the most accomplished, ingenious and interesting impostors in history."

Mr. Hodgson also accused Madame Blavatsky of being a Russian spy. This "S.P.R.-Hodgson" Report has been the basis for most subsequent attacks on H.P. Blavatsky, as to her dishonesty, the non-existence of her Masters, and the worthlessness of Theosophy.
In 1963, Adlai Waterman (pseudonym of Walter A. Carrithers, Jr.) in his definitive work entitled Obituary: The "Hodgson Report" on Madame Blavatsky, analyzed and refuted Hodgson’s contentions against Madame Blavatsky. A more recent refutation of some of Hodgson’s charges against H.P.B. is Vernon Harrison’s book titled H. P. Blavatsky and the SPR: An Examination of the Hodgson Report of 1885.

This vicious attack had a most unfavorable effect on H.P. Blavatsky’s health. Having left India for Europe, she settled first in Italy and then in August, 1885 at Wurzburg, Germany, where she worked on The Secret Doctrine. In July, 1886, she relocated to Ostend, Belgium, and in May of 1887, at the invitation of English Theosophists, she moved to a small house at Upper Norwood, London.

After her arrival in England, Theosophical activities immediately began to move rapidly. The Blavatsky Lodge was formed and started publicizing Theosophical ideas.
As H.P. Blavatsky had virtually lost control of The Theosophist, she founded in September, 1887 Lucifer, a monthly magazine designed, as stated on its title-page, "to bring to light the hidden things of darkness." Also in the same month, H.P.B. moved to 17 Lansdowne Road, Holland Park, London.

H.P.B. continued to write her great work which was finally completed and published in two large volumes in October-December, 1888. Her indefatigable helpers in the transcription and editing of the manuscript were Bertram Keightley and Archibald Keightley, whose financial backing was also of immense assistance.

The Secret Doctrine was the crowning achievement of H.P. Blavatsky’s literary career. Volume I is concerned mainly with the evolution of the Universe. The skeleton of this volume is formed by seven Stanzas, translated from the Book of Dzyan, with commentary and explanations by H.P.B. Also in this volume is an extended elucidation of the fundamental symbols contained in the great religions and mythologies of the world. The second Volume contains a further series of Stanzas from the Book of Dzyan, which describe the evolution of humanity.


Also in October, 1888, Madame Blavatsky formed the Esoteric Section (or School) of the Theosophical Society for the deeper study of the Esoteric Philosophy by dedicated students, and wrote for them her three E. S. Instructions.

Nostradamus Prophecy

Here are some of Nostradamus more popular quatrains that scholars believed have come to pass.

The Death of King Henry II

The young lion will overcome the old one On the battlefield in single combat; In a cage of gold, his eyes will be put outTwo wounds in one, then to die a cruel death.

The reigning king of France, Henry II summoned Nostradamus to his court and asked the prophet to explain this vision. Nostradamus explained the King will be killed in a jousting tournament. Henry laughed at the idea. He would never participate in such a tournament. But the King did joust in a tournament against the Count Gabriel Montgomery. During the match, the Count's jousting staff slipped off the Kings chest of armor and embedded itself in his eyes, through an armored helmet made of gold. Unfortunately for Henry, it took several hours for the King to finally expire. Definitely a cruel death. This quatrains officially branded Nostradamus as a prophet.

The French Revolution

It is estimated that Nostradamus wrote 30 quatrains about the French Revolution, which began in 1789.

The husband, alone afflicted, will be mitered; Conflict will take place at the tile works by 500. One betrayer will be titled.

In this quatrain, Nostradamus writes of a place he could not have even known of. The Twilleries was the palace of King Louis. But this palace did not even exist in Nostradamus' day. In 1791 a gang of angry Frenchmen calling themselves the Marsi'es, meaning 500, attacked King Louis' palace.

By night he will come to the forest of Reines, A devious rout, the white Queen of stone And the gray King, to Varennes.

Scholars suggest this quatrain refers to the flight of King Louis and his Queen Marie Antoinette. Taking the odd route through the Forest of Reines, the king was dressed in a gray cloak posing as a monk. The two royals attempted their escape by carriage to Varennes.

The government taken over, will convict the king. A new king invites guests to a wedding, but others plot the lady's death, as well as that of his mistress.

The people of France did convict King Louis and sentenced him to death. The Queen was tried by a jury chosen by lot and was also sentenced to death along with the King's mistress. The royals were taken to a square in Paris and beheaded at the guillotine.

The Anti-Christs ~ Napoleon

Nostradamus writes of three anti-christs. Three men that would lead their people through reigns of terror after promises of prosperity and greatness. The first of these Nostradamus declares as Napoleon.

An emperor will be born near Italy. One who will cost his empire quite a high price.Among his supporters, he will be found less a prince than a butcher.

Napoleon was an emperor of France, not a king. He was born near Italy on the island of Corsica, an unlikely place for a ruler of France to come from. During his reign, he was seen as both a prince and a butcher.

From a simple soldier he will attain to empire, through a short robe he will attain the long. Great swarms of bees will arise.

Napoleon adopted the beehive as his royal crest. He moved quickly from the short coat of a soldier to the long robe of emperor. Nostradamus predicted the Emperor would reign for 14 years. Indeed, Napoleon's reign of terror began when he seized power in November 9th 1799, to the time he was exiled to Elba April 13, 1814; was 14 years and 5 months.
A great troop shall come through Russia, The destroyer shall ruin a city.

Napoleon in Greek means the New Destroyer invaded Russia in 1812. His troops invaded and conquered Moscow. But Napoleon over extended his army, another prediction of Nostradamus, and was forced to retreat through the frozen Russian high lands. Nostradamus called those frozen lands the white territory.

The great empire will soon be exchanged for a small place. in which he will come to lay down his scepter. A small place of tiny area it will soon begin to grow.

Napoleon was indeed exiled to the small island of Elba, where the Emperor was forced to lay down his royal title. But the French leader would soon plot his way back into the leadership of France and escape his island prison. Only to find failure once more at Waterloo.

The Anti-Christs ~ Hitler

From the Aryan height, there shall arise one who is elevated and obscure. of him who rules from the most horrible thrown ever known.

Out of the deepest part of the west of Europe, of poor people, a young child shall be born. Who with his tongue shall seduce many people.

While screams are heard in the Mediterranean, leaders from North Africa and Asia Minor meet near Venice, representing the Rhine and Danube respectively.

A young Nero burns pages alive but eventually three of his own family have him killed.
These first two versus describe the rise to power of Adolf Hitler. He was an obscure solder who used his slick tongue to win or mind-wash the citizens of Germany. While screams of terror from the Jewish Holocaust are heard, Hitler and Mussolini meet and plan to conquer Europe. The last verse refers to the book burnings in Berlin, and a plot against Hitler's life in July 1932.

There are versus that describe the furnaces in the concentration camps, the brutal murders of innocent Jews, the separation of children from their parents, the Jewish slave labor spread across the German occupied territory and more, much more.

The Germans and their neighbors will be in a war. For the control of regions of the clouds.
In the island shall be such horrible tumonts that nothing should be heard by war like surprise. So great shall be the assault of the robbers that the people shall hide themselves under the great line.

The battle of Britain began one of the greatest air battles ever recorded. Hitler committed his entire force to breaking the back of Britain. The second verse describes the island's, Britain, reaction to the attack. The "nothing should be heard" refers to the air raid sirens to warn the people of an oncoming attack. Indeed the people did hide themselves under the great line, a great description of the London Underground, or subway.

Magda Goebbels, wife of the Nazi Germany's propaganda minister, studied the Nostradamus prophecies. She was elated to find so many versus pertaining to the rise of the Third Reich and the successes that lay before Hitler and his armies.

The United Kingdom and America retaliated in kind, publishing their own versus that described the fall of the German Empire and triumph of free world. MGM even created several short documentaries as moral boosters for the citizens back home. These shorts called "Nostradamus Says So!" were played in theaters across the nation before every feature presentation.
The chosen protector of the great country For endless years will hold the famed torch. It will serve to guide this great people, And in its name they will struggle and triumph.

The great country of America can often times be symbolized by the Statue of Liberty, which serves as a guide to the people. In the name of freedom America struggled many times, and triumphed many times as well.

Saturn of gold will be changed into iron. The contrary of the positive ray shall exterminate all. Fire from the color of gold from Heaven to Earth shall be seen. Great murder of mankind, great loss of infants.

Scholars believe this verse describes the reaction of nuclear fission, as well as, the gold fire which fills the familiar mushroom cloud that stretches from heaven to earth after destination.

Nostradamus used this verse and others to describe the fall of Nazi Germany and the end of
World War II.

America

The west shall be free from the British isles. About a country not yet born, 2000 miles away. The American revolutionary war.

The eldest sister of the Britannic Island shall be born fifteen years before her brother. By what is promised her and by help of truth, She shall succeed in the Kingdom of balance.
America, the eldest sister, found her independence in 1776, 15 years before her brother, France in 1791. Scholars suggest the latter part of this verse predicts the influence America shall acquire throughout the world.

A conspired death shall come to a decent. A charge given and a journey to death. Elected created received by his own defeated. Blood of innocence before by remorse.

President Lincoln's assassination at Ford's Theater. A murder that was indeed a vast conspiracy organized by those he defeated during the American Civil War.

The great man falls by lightening in the day, an evil foretold by the postulant one.
The ancient work will be accomplished from the roof, evil ruin shall fall on the great man. Dyeing, dead, they will accuse an innocent of the deed. The guilty one hidden in the misty woods.
Here in these two quatrains, Nostradamus predicts the assassination of another great man. This time there is a modern day prophet who tries to warn the great man. Could this quatrains be the murder of John F. Kennedy and the prediction of Jeanne Dixon, the modern day psychic? Many Nostradamus scholars think so.

Lee Harvey Oswald was accused, supposedly shooting the President from the top windows of the Book Depository. The controversy surrounding Oswald's innocence and the conspiracy to kill the president has long been a topic of interest to Americans. The "misty woods" could even be a reference to the small area that lay to the right of the President's parade route, called the grassy knoll. Was there a second gun man hidden in shrubbery?

Technology

He shall go out in an iron fish, by lightening the arch of gold and silver melted. The fleet can swim under water, it shall be as a bomb under the sea.
The eye of the sea watches like a greedy dog.
In an iron fish he will make war.

In these versus, Nostradamus foretells of submarines, the iron fish. Some see the "bomb under the sea" as either the capability of torpedo launches, or submarines powered by nuclear reactors. The eye of the sea can be connected to periscopes and man has indeed wagged war in both iron submarines and iron navy ships.

After a great human change another is at hand, the great engine renewith with the ages. In the heaven shall be seen a running fire with long sparks.

He will come to take himself to the corner of Luna where he will be taken and placed on a strange land.

Scholars suggest these two quatrains describe man's travel into space. The first, prophecy of space rockets, as they take off leaving behind them a long trail of fire. The second clearly indicates mans travel and landing on the moon.

Nine humans are set apart and on their own, their fate sealed, and "K", "Th" and "L" banished.
Some scholars believe these "Nine" set apart is a description of the American Supreme court, whose members are appointed for life, therefore their fate is sealed. The latter part of the verse however could mean many things, from case law to meaning actual people are banished from the bench. Other scholars suggest this foretells the NASA Challenger disaster, the last line would then represent the letters of names, potentially the NASA officials who were dismissed during the subsequent investigation of the disaster.

Modern Day Conflicts and Events

Rain, famine, war in Persia having not ceased, Too great a faith shall betray the monarch. Being ended there, it shall commence in France, A secret omen to one that he shall die.
In Nostradamus's time Iran was called Persia. Scholars believe this verse describes the over throw of the Shah of Iran. The last lines in this verse suggest the plot begins in France. Indeed it did, as the Ayatollah began his plans to retake Iran and return it to a land of great faith.

An infamous, villainous tyrant of Iraq, in league with the Great Whore moves in, leaving the land horrid and black.

Great bloodshed, hunger, and astmosheric pollution afflict the region adjoining Iraq.
Because "Alus" cannot assure his safety overseas, an Iraqi leader cowers before an army and a "Furious Black" subdues him.

1991 The Gulf War. The tyrant, Saddam Hussein, believed he asked permission from the U.S. to invade Kuwait prior to moving in on that nation. In this case, the U.S. could be seen as the Great Whore who has a tendency to use other nations for her own benefit. The invasion did indeed leave the land horrid and black with oil fires. Those fires caused a great deal of astmospheric pollution in the region. However, the Iraqi leader was subdued by the unified forces of the world. Some scholars believe the "furious black" could be an indication of General Colin Powell's participation in planning and directing the U.S. attacks on Iraqi.

Fire from the center of the earth; The great Earthquake shall be in the month of May. Saturn, Capricorn, Jupiter, Mercury in Taurus, Venus, also Cancer, Mars in Zero.

Fire from the center of the earth, Shall make an earthquake in the New City.
Astrologers suggest the conjunction of Saturn, Capricorn, Jupiter and Mercury occurred in 1998.

In this verse Nostradamus foretells of a great earthquake in May of 1998. In the latter verse Nostradamus tries to define where the earthquake will occur, the new city. Scholars of Nostradamus explain that when he used "new city" he was referring to new cities in the new world, America.

The war begins in greater Arabia, the sun, mars and Venus in Aquarius.

The conjunction of the Sun, Mars and Venus in Aquarius occurred in 1994. Some scholars believe this could have been a prophecy of the Gulf War, while others suggest the timing doesn't coincide with the 1991 war. Nostradamus was not usually off by this amount of time and therefore this verse may pertain to Saddam's stock piling conventional and chemical weapons.
Preparing for his next uprising.

Can we dismiss the prophecies of Nostradamus? His uncanny accuracy of the past 500 years suggest the versus relating to our future should and must be heeded. Nostradamus himself wrote in a letter to his son that the tragedies he predicted could be diverted. After all our future is but the outcome of the choices we make today. If we take heed to these warnings and modify our choices, we could and can change the outcome of our current destiny. Even when we're on the steps of a great war.

The 3rd World War and the 3rd Anti-Christ

Out of the country of greater Arabia, shall be born a strong master of Muhammad and law.
I think any current political analyst would agree the potential of this verse has already come to realization. Saddam Hussein does have an uncanny hold over many nations in the middle east and the Muslim nations. Like the Anti-Christs before him, he has a way with words that seemingly promise an abundance of good living and wealth to his people. However, in the end, the promises are also seemingly empty.

In the year 1999 and seven months From the sky will come the great King of Terror. He will bring back to life the King of the Mongols; Before and after, war reigns.
Here Nostradamus tells us when the war will be in full force, as indicated by the last line. Some scholars believe this is an omen of chemical warfare occurring in July 1999. One can not deny the threat of the current conflict in Kosovo and Yugoslavia.

Some analysts suggest this world conflict is even more dangerous than the one faced in Iraq. At the very least, the NATO alliance is much more unstable and the threat of the Russian's siding with Yugoslavia is indeed present.

This king will enter Europe wearing a blue turban. He is one that shall cause the infernal gods of Hannibal to live again. He will be the terror of mankind. Never more horror.

Could Hussein succeed in crossing the lines into Europe? This verse and the next suggest that not only is it possible, but that he will come to sit on the thrown of Britain, Spain, France and Italy. There is an old moto that comes to mind, "Your enemy is my enemy. Together we can defeat him". Would it be out of the realm of possibility for the forces of the middle east to join against the common foe with Yugoslavia? The scariest part of this verse is "the infernal gods of Hannibal", a reference to cannibalistic living.

Update:
Some now see this quatrain as possibly referring to Osama bin Laden. There has long been speculation that the reason behind Hannibal's rise is due to chemical warfare. Striking the world into famine and hunger. With an increased concern about Terrorists possessing various chemical weapons, and the US governments serious concentration on that issue, the concept is frighteningly real.

The kingdom of the fez shall come to the thrown of Europe.
The Moorish law will be seen to fall followed by another that is more pleasing Boristanis will be the first to fall.

In this verse scholars say Nostradamus is describing an alliance between Islam and Russia. Starting in the south near the river Boristanis, Islam joins with Russia and nuclear power for the Muslim leader becomes possible. The Russians did straddle the fence between backing Saddam and strongly suggesting he comply to the UN resolutions. Again with Yugoslavia, the Russians stand against the NATO alliance. The question remains, how far will they go to back this leader?
1998

A city divided by two heads and three arms while Turkish leaders are forced to flee by Iranian invaders.

"A city divided" presumably means Istanbul, which is divided into three parts on two continents. In dating this prophecy, scholars compare the language and events with other prophecies of a like event. They also use correspondence and other documents Nostradamus kept that may relate to a verse in the prophecy books. In this manner, a verse that has no astrological reference can be dated to at least a given year of occurrence. This method has been surprisingly accurate for past prophecies, so there's no reason to doubt that the predicted time for a future event is also as accurate. In that case, the invasion described in this verse would occur during 1998.

1999

A woman hounded from power by conspirators, returns triumphantly to rule; from age seventy-three until her death.

1999 sees the reemergence of a female leader. At first some scholars suggested this to be Margaret Thatcher. She is the only woman to have ruled over a country during war time in the past 30 years. The war in the Faukland Islands might be considered by some to be less than a war, but others would strongly argue the point. But consider Hillary Clinton and her bid for the New York senate. She has been hounded by power conspirators, and she put her hat in the running for the senate, there's no doubt that the battle did get worse. As she increases her experience and reputation, will she eventually become a candidate for the presidency in years to come?

But we can't rule out the potential of Elizabeth Dole. Could she be hounded by Democratic power grubbers in retaliation? Regardless, this verse along with other supporting verses suggest that a woman will govern a major power again and the event will occur in the near future.
In July 1999, during a brief peace, a heavenly paymaster stirs up a great Mongol overlord, and
war then resumes.

July 1999 we could see a visit by the Holy Catholic Pope to Iraq or directly to Saddam. The visit presumably is a plea for peace, which becomes a bribe to cease hostilities. Evidently this will infuriate the "Mongol" leader and war will resume.

There are several versus (V.48, v.54, II.4, VII.6 and VIII.84) that all suggest an invasion into southeastern Europe, the Balklands and a sea invasion into Italy by the Muslim forces. The sweep across Europe begins in 1999.
2000

Mediterranean ports combine to send warships against a North African fleet and chase it back to Tunis.

With confederate fleets landing at Marseille, armies set out from the Adriatic to march on Hungary, Sicily is devastated, and northern Italy is under gunfire.

In these two versus and in several others (V.48, II.49, V.47, VI.21) Nostradamus foretells of the European ports combining forces to fight back the Mongol hoards in Libya, Africa and off the coast of Sicily. But Asiatic forces push back across the Danube, reaching Rhodes and the ocean coast of Turkey.

In versus II.86, V.24, VI.54, Nostradamus describes the Iraqi forces over running Egypt. In II.5, he possibly predicts the Muslims invading Italy from the mainland side, effectively squeezing the country into submission.

A comet bright as the sun, and the baying of the "Great Mastiff" mark a Pope's change of abode.
In this verse, as well as VII.22, VII.22 and X.3, Nostradamus describes an attack on Rome by bombing and potentially "baying of the Great Mastiff" means conventional forces. The "Great Mastiff" is unlikely to be Hussien himself, but rather a General or great battlefield leader within the Muslim army. Regardless, it is obvious the Pope is forced to flee Rome, possibly to the papal palace in Avignon, France.

In the year of the new century and nine months,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the great new city

Does Nostradamus describe the first nuclear target? In this verse he gives the longitude at 45 degrees, and we know whenever he spoke of a new city he was referring to a city in the new world. Scholars agree, this could only be New York. In this time of tension between the world's UN peace keepers in the Mid-East and the UN inspectors in Iraq, it does seem likely that the UN building in N.Y. could become a target.
Update:

Was this a prophecy of the weapons burning toward the city, or the city itself in flames? Could this describe the planes fiery engines, filled with fuel to create the largest explosion on impact? Osama bin Laden is definitely a King of Terror, not to mention the timing.
Near the gates and within the citiesthere will be two scourges the like of which was never seen,famine within plague, people put out by steel,crying to the great immortal God for relief.

Update:
With the events of September 11, 2001, this quatrain becomes much clearer. Within 2 cities (New York and Washington DC), two scourges the like of which have never been seen. Until this time, no one has dared use a plan as a bomb. The people put out by steel is clearly the affects of the escape by many when the twin towers fell. After this event many Americans certainly did turn to their faith to find solace and relief.

A new war is coming, that's evident by all news accounts and threats. Sadly, as rescuers fought to free more victims in New York, their efforts added oxygen to burning embers which reignited into flames. The city continued to burn long after most thought the fires were extinguished. Could this line be referring to these rescue efforts? Or is this yet another event yet to come upon or after the President succumbs?

2002-2005

With Saturn in Aries or badly aspected with Mars occupying powers share out the spoils amid horrors in Italy and Greece.

Presumably 2002 sees the Muslim forces succeeding in their overrun of Rome and Greece.
Pillage of the great treasures of Greece and the wealth of Rome are divided amongst the benefactors while horrors and tragedies of the battle lie at their feet.

Saturn brings thunder in Burgundy, an animal monster and four months' bloodshed.
In 2003 we might see bombing in Europe with some type of chemical war heads, the "thunder in Burgundy" could indicate some type of gas agents. After the bombing the anti-christ, or "animal monster" ensues a battle that lasts for 4 bloody months.

After peace and war, a great mountain will be beset by floods that will devastate many countries.

Nostradamus predicts a natural catastrophe during 2004 that will devastate Europe. What seems confusing about this verse is the first line. Could this be an indication of a cease fire, or the end of one war prior to the start of another longer lasting battle? This verse also coincides with his predictions of a potential meteor that strikes the earth. (See "The End of the World" near the end of this posting").

The City of the Sun is overrun by barbarians from the Adriatic.

2005-Muslims move in to attack Lyon.

After a northward blowing wind carrying ashes, lime and dust over the walls causes the abandonment of a siege, those involved are forced to withdraw by "rain".
In 2005 Nostradamus predicts several natural disasters that both help and hinder fighting efforts against the Muslim invasion. In this quatrain, the disaster is a help as ash and "lava rain" down on the attackers, forcing their withdraw of Rome.

2006-2024
Death, followed by flood, overtakes Rome, as a leader is consigned to a dungeon and castle and palace go up in flames.

Between 2006 and 2011, fighting continues through Italy, France and Spain. In versus III.20, VI.88, I.72, V.48 and the one above II.93, Nostradamus details the battles, the fall and even the murder of the leader of Rome, the Pope, by Muslim forces.

Spanish invaders inflict bloodshed on northern France, while a rescuing armada approaches.
2020, The French fight back Muslim invaders while help comes from the sea.
An expected coup is foretold, the Orient is invaded during the night confronted by the grand enemies; Subsequent prestige is lost in Aquarius.

In this verse, Nostradamus suggests the Muslims invade the Orient, presumably through China during the night. The assault succeeds in late January or early February in 2024.

2025 - The War Begins To End

Having overrun much of the world with his hordes, a great enemy leader is poisoned, blaming his impending death on a variety of unlikely agents.

A Muslim soldier kills an already-dying ruler, at the request of an ambitious mother, to both his and the regime's subsequent regret.

In these two versus, Nostradamus foretells of the successful assassination of the 3rd anti-christ. The Muslim overlord is poisoned and "mercifully" put to death in 2026. The breakdown in leadership begins and the European nations succeed in fighting back their invaders.
Southwestern France rises in revolt when a monster is born near Orgon.

2026 sees the French rising up against their oppressors after the birth of a potential successor to the fallen Muslim leader.

In versus II.16, II.71, II.34, V.23 and others, Nostradamus thankfully continues his theme of a western counter invasion. The new allied forces push the Muslims back through occupied Italy reaching Sicily by 2027. The fight continues into 2032 when a new Ahenobarbus defeats the Muslim invaders.

Warships and cargo vessels captured from Iran, attack Iranian Muslims and sack the Greek islands before retiring to an Ionian port.

A Griffin-like ruler of Europe attacks the Iraqi leader with an international northern army.
In this verse, Nostradamus foretells of the further counter invasion by European forces in 2034. The battles push the Muslims all the way back into the Middle East. By the end of 2034, the European allied forces invade Turkey in their new crusade to retake the territory and restore freedom and peace.

After great disasters, population declines peace ensues with safe land, sea and air travel.
Populations decrease, either by war or disease. Peace returns to the world and with it, global prosperity is predicted between 2034 and 2100.

The End of the World

Contrary to popular belief, Nostradamus does not predict the date when the world will end. This "rumor" is the result of would be interpreters who seemingly make some vast assumptions concerning many versus within the quatrains. Those assumptions seem to be based on correlations to Biblical chapters that foretell the end of the world during an apocalyptic event. A time when the skies fall, the earth shakes and dead rise.

Taken in context with his other quatrains, writings and clues to dating his predictions, the world seems to last for a bit longer than the 7000a.d. mark currently forecast by some. In short here's a brief tour of the world in the distant future.

One prophecy suggests the fall of the Pope during WWIII is coincided with an astrological event, either a comet or more likely a meteor.

V.32: Disaster from the skies, like the seventh stone, strikes when least expected.
III.4 Shortly before sun and moon are dimmed, cold, drought, and danger are abroad.
III.5 With the far future dimming of sun and moon, two mighty rescuers appear.
These three versus support the meteor theory which cast the earth in to a "nuclear winter". The earth is stricken into a time of drought, possibly 40 years. Then bombarded by rain and flood, famine and still the war rages on during most of this time period. There are some who suggest the last line of III.5 is what turns everything around.

The 2 mighty rescuers are suggested to be extraterrestrial. In fact Nostradamus defines many versus of extraterrestrial visitations and influence on the world. Both in the past and increasingly in the future.

The versus continue into the future describing peace, and a new awareness of personal spiritual evolution; a "new age" if you will. As if man has finally evolved to a point of peace and cast off the shackles of greed, ego and avarice.

Then one May, presumably in 2828, a huge earthquake is felt that is so grand the land seemingly turns itself upside down. Nostradamus predicts the rising of the dead as part of this quake. However, putting the vision into context with other quatrains, it is conceivable that the "rising" is actually the unearthing of coffins during the initial quake or several aftershocks.
This amazing event seems to happen during the middle of the 2828 Olympic games. A time when the world is already focused on itself and unity. Some scholars use this vision in conjunction with prophecies of the bible or other religions text and suggest Nostradamus is
predicting the time of the apocalypse, the time of Revelations.

The problem is, there are many more prophecies to be fulfilled based on the dating process. No where in his books "Prophecies of Nostradamus", does he more clearly define this than in verse I.48, described below.

7000

I.48: Fulfillment of Nostradamus Prophecies by the year 7000 and nine moons.
A prediction about himself. Nostradamus foresaw the completion of all his prophecies by September 7000.

With the exception of quatrain #10-72 (which plainly states the year 1999) and quatrains #2-46 and #10-74 (which mention the change of a millennium -- suggesting the times around the years 2000 or 3000), all the other dates presented in this chapter were obtained by information contained in the astrological quatrains. Please refer to the chapter titled the Astrological

Quatrains for a detailed explanation of how these potential dates were derived. Rather than attempting to formulate a sequential year-to-year chronology, general themes concerning future wars and natural disasters are presented, followed by some of the hypothetical dates in which they have the potential to occur (between 2000 and the year 2050 A.D.).

Though present political and military alliances may endure into the future, readers should consider the possibility that these alliances, as they exist now, may differ slightly from the ones which might be formed (or restructured) during the progression of the 21st century.

Therefore, the possibility for the emergence of new international alliances and confederations (some being favorable to the West, others adverse) certainly exists, especially in Africa, the Middle East, the former Soviet Union, and various parts of Asia.

Quatrain # 2-89 appears to suggest that the United States and Russia would one day be "friends" again, and their combined power would appear to grow. Since the collapse of the Iron Curtain, and up to the millennial era, this has indeed been the case. However, quatrain #4-95 and #5-78 seem to suggest that this friendship might be short lived (if these quatrains are in fact references to the United States and Russia). If by chance this later becomes true, the reversal of friendship between them could impact many global events to come.

In quatrain # 10-72, Nostradamus predicted an event for July (or September) of 1999 which involved some type of military combat, or other event, by means of the sky. It appears that it foreshadowed NATO's air-war in Serbia, the military tension between China and Taiwan, Russia's war in Chechyna, and the tragic death of John F. Kennedy Jr. Due to the timeliness of this prophecy, this particular quatrain aroused great curiosity among the public.Beyond the events around the change of the millennium, it appears that conflicts between Christian and Islamic nations have the potential to occur.

This could involve one or a combination of the following nations: Iran, Afghanistan, Algeria, Morocco, Pakistan, Tunisia, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Iraq, various nations of the former Soviet Union, and others; against Turkey, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Macedonia, Hungary, the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, and various allies of these nations.By land, various Islamic armies (and their allies) might one day invade Turkey, Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, the former Yugoslavia, Austria, and eventually march towards Italy, attacking the Italians and other forces located there.

From Italy, the invaders could then attack other nations in various parts of Europe. It appears that Greece might endure chemical or biological warfare in these conflicts (see quatrains #9-91, #5-47, and #6-21). Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, and Libya may attempt to vex Egypt by land. By sea, these same North African nations appear to invade the southern coastline of France, Monaco, and Spain (then deeper into Europe).Some of these conflicts could occur in one massive sweep. Or, they might take place over an extended period of years.

In addition to land war, these conflicts seem to involve heavy naval warfare in the Mediterranean, Tyrrhenian and Aegean Seas. The nations of N.A.T.O. (or its future equivalent) and their various allies appear to eventually prevail in these conflicts. The fate of Israel remains unclear.

However, in paragraph #34 of the Epistle, Nostradamus states that Jerusalem might be assailed on all sides, and a Western naval force (from the United States and or other nations in the New World) will help Israel in fighting the forces of its future adversaries.

According to astrological information the years for the potential occurrence of these conflicts (between the period of 2000 to 2050) might be: 2000, 2002, 2013, 2015-16, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2030, 2037, 2038, and 2044. One should consider the possibility that Euro/Arabic or "Muslim/Christian" conflicts might occur before, during, or after the war with the yet-to-arrive third antichrist. How Euro/Arabic conflicts inter-relate with the war with the third antichrist is unclear at this time. Some of them will be part of his war, and some of them might be precursory or unrelated independent events.

Nostradamus appears to suggest that the future third antichrist will come from a region east of the Black Sea. In paragraph #23 of the Epistle he states that "the grand Empire of the Antichrist shall begin in the region of the former empire of Attila" (Attila was the leader of the Asian Huns who invaded Europe during the fifth century).

Nostradamus refers to the third antichrist as "the new Xerxes" (Xerxes was the Persian king who unsuccessfully invaded Greece in 480 B.C.).Nostradamus intentionally used the names "Attila" and "Xerxes" as allusions to personality types and geographical areas. Thus, in a geographical sense, this suggests that he was referring to various regions of eastern Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

The army of the third antichrist (an enemy of peace) will begin its trek towards Europe from a region between the Caspian and Black Seas. It appears that they will pass through Alania (southwestern Russia) and Armenia, then into Turkey (quatrain #5-54). From there they invade most all of Europe.

The naval forces of the third antichrist will be accompanied by the Libyan fleet into the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas (quatrain #1-9). One of the climaxes of this future conflict appears to be a colossal naval engagement in the Adriatic Sea (quatrain #5-27). Island locations which sustain damage in this war include Malta, Euboea, Sicily, Sardinia, the Dodecanese Islands, and the Cyclades.If the Russians are "not" allied with Europe and the West during the beginning of this war, Nostradamus states in the Epistle that a northern king from Aquilon (an allusion to Russia) will eventually help to set things right.

This suggests that if the Russians are allied against Europe and the New World at the start of this conflict, they will reverse their position at some future point during the hostilities, and militarily realign themselves with Europe and the West in an effort to quash the "Easterners". As used in Nostradamus' Epistle, "Easterners" would be a reference to the citizens of China, former Soviet nations in central and eastern Asia, the Muslim nations of the Middle East and Asia, and or other countries of the Orient.

Therefore, in consideration of all the prophetic information contained in the quatrains and Epistle, it appears likely that China, in an alliance with certain Muslim nations (and other countries) might be the source of future troubles for many nations around the world.Apparently, various nations who embrace Christianity will be military targets of the third antichrist. Nostradamus clearly states in his Epistle that the followers of Christianity will face a horrific persecution in the future.

The war with the future third antichrist, according to Nostradamus, will last for the duration of 27.5 years (suggesting a protracted war). N.A.T.O., S.E.A.T.O. (or their future equivalent) and their allies appear to be victorious over the third antichrist's forces.

However there appears to be great losses on both sides of this futuristic conflict.Nostradamus appears to suggest that various regions will one day be struck by missiles (in Europe, the West and elsewhere). New York City might be the location of a direct hit (see quatrains #4-99 and #6-97). In paragraph #33 of the Epistle, Nostradamus states that a pestilence will develop in the future which will remove two-thirds of the world's population.

Could this be a reference to futuristic nuclear or biological war? If so, could this possibly be connected with the third antichrist's war?When will the third antichrist make his appearance? Will he appear sometime during the first or second quarter of the twenty-first century? It seems possible, yet the answer remains unclear.

Hopefully he will never manifest himself and the world will be spared from his wrath.However, if he makes his appearance before the year 2050, hypothetical years for events which might involve him could be: 2000, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2024, 2026, 2028, 2030, 2038, 2041, 2043, 2044, and 2049.

In his Epistle, Nostradamus stated that at some point in the future, global flooding will occur. No specific date is mentioned regarding its occurrence, except that it will happen sometime "after" the fall of the future third antichrist.Some scientists have suggested that the possibility of universal flooding is not as remote as it may seem.

Global warming appears to be real and the average temperature of the Earth continues to rise year after year, possibly due to carbon emissions from the combustion of coal and oil, and other human related factors (and not necessarily due to the natural variations of the Earth's climate). If atmospheric heating continues, sea levels could rise as much as three feet in the next century, and if that occurs, the universal flood Nostradamus predicted could one day become reality.

A world-wide flood would have a devastating effect upon the Earth. In addition to flooding, if global warming continues, it could affect rainfall patterns resulting in droughts and famine, affecting the spread of various infectious diseases. And considering the fact that Nostradamus penned many predictions pertaining to droughts, famines, floods, and pestilences, it should serve as a warning to us to consider the long term consequences of this perplexing phenomenon.

Some modern commentators feel that Nostradamus hints at the possibility of a future polar shift, as per the text in paragraph #24 of the Epistle. In example, the on-going heating of the Earth could melt the ice in the polar regions creating not only floods, but producing conditions that could allow for an "off balancing" of the Earth on its axis.

If a polar-shift were to occur, it would cause our planet to quickly shift upon its axis, making a correction to reestablish a new center of its gravity. In the opinion of many modern scientists, in geological terms the Earth is long over due for a polar shift. A polar shift would be quite devastating and could trigger earthquakes and tidal waves (as well as the long term failure of crops and eco-systems).

Some have hypothesized that the gravitational effect created by an alignment of various planets within our own solar system could also serve as a catalyst to produce a polar shift. Another event which could trigger a polar shift could be a collision between the Earth and an asteroid or comet (as occurred on Jupiter in 1994).

According to Velikovsky, a student of Einstein, polar shifts have occurred frequently throughout the geological history of the Earth as referenced in his books Earth in Upheaval and Worlds in Collision. And in the opinion of many modern scientists, in geological terms -- the Earth is long overdue for a polar shift.It remains speculation as to whether or not Nostradamus was trying to suggest a polar shift by use of the phrase "the grand translation".

But if we consider that Nostradamus frequently used synonyms in his writing, we should consider it as a future possibility. If a universal flood, massive earthquakes, a polar shift, or a mighty tidal wave were to occur at some point in the future, it could act as an accelerant, initiating hostilities between nations who might otherwise be at peace with one another. A catastrophe of great magnitude might compel the militaries (and citizens) of the various nations affected by it to panic in the chaos and fight over the remaining food and resources, as they scramble for safe ground.

In regards to future earthquakes (between 2000-2050), possible dates for their occurrence, as per astronomical information contained in the quatrains are as follows: earthquakes in America and/or Italy -- 2015, 2016, 2044; earthquakes in Asia -- 2013 and 2026; world-wide earthquakes -- 2048. But readers should bare in mind that Nostradamus did not make predictions for "every" earthquake which will rock our Earth in the future. Earthquakes can occur (in various regions) at anytime and with no warning at all.After the defeat of the third antichrist, and the passing of the great flood, Nostradamus states in his Epistle that a one thousand year period of peace will prevail upon the planet. Then, new wars appear to present themselves (perhaps around the year 3100).

Nostradamus: Michel de Nostradame

Michel de Nostredame was born on December 14th, 1503 in St.-Remy-de-Provence, France; the first son of a large and educated Jewish family. During this era, Jews were persecuted and often practiced their beliefs in shadows. No one is quite sure why, but in 1462, Michel's grand father converted to Christianity, perhaps for the daughter of a prominent politician. He also changed his given name Guy Gassonet taking on a more Christian name from the then popular bishop Pierre, and a new surname de Nostredame meaning "of Our Lady".

The new Pierre de Nostredame passed on this legacy of education and prominence to his children. Jaume de Nostredame, Michel's father, carried on this family tradition becoming a prosperous grain merchant who taught himself to be a well practiced lawyer. With this kind of family "gumption" it's no wonder that Michel too would become an over achiever.

His early education began as his maternal great-grandfather, Jean, tutored the young Michel in mathematics. Jean was a former Town Treasurer, who had embarked on the respected career of physician during the Italian High Renaissance. He was more than qualified to teach Latin, Greek, astronomy and astrology to Michel. Not to mention his experience with chemistry, herbalism and medicine in general.

What isn't widely know is that Michel also took up a great interest of antiques, especially from countless visits to the ancient Roman city of Glanum which was not far from his home. There are some who might speculate that Michel added to his educational knowledge through the ancient Roman books he was fond of browsing through. Could he have read and studied from the old master Paracelsus? The medical knowledge and insights of Paracelsus seem very familiar to Michel's own later exploits. What ever the source, Michel was so adapt with his understanding of medicine and herbology that he could easily qualify as an apothecary.

By the time he was 16, Michel was ready to enter the university in Avignon. His beginning studies were in classical grammar, rhetoric and logic along with basic sciences. But these were interrupted by the plague of 1520 and Michel took his place as physician among many other educated healers of the day. But Michel became known, even in this early time, as a miracle worker. It wasn't until after he spent many years of traveling around Europe that Michel actually enrolled into medical school at the famous Montpelier medical facility in October 1529.

His medical education was not without trouble however. His vast experience during the plague and through his travels boosted Michel's knowledge, in many cases, above those of the scholars doing the teaching. Michel was often at odds with his instructors over the causes or affects of illness in patients. There is no record that Michel achieved his doctorate degree at Montpelier. But by 1533 he had set himself up as a doctor in the town of Agen.

It was in Agen that Michel took his first wife, had two sons and settled into a respectable family life. But it was not to last for long. His beautiful young wife and their two children would die within the first 5 years of marriage. Reportedly due to a plague of some kind, although there is no clear documentation to this fact. It is believed however, that this experience of loss is what pushed the young physician down the path of becoming the worlds most renowned Plague Doctor. At least of his time.

Michel moved back to Provence by 1544 and began intensive studies under the outstanding physicians of the day. Louis Serres was one of these doctors, whom Michel called "another Hippocrates". It is Serres that Michel credits much of his own knowledge and success to. Serres and Michel were becoming well known as the only physicians who could cure the plague.

In 1546, Michel was summoned to Aixen-Provence to take control of another outbreak of the plague. No sooner was the town under control, than he received another summons, to Salon. It was here in Salon that Michel met his second wife. But before he had a chance to settle down with his new love interest, another summons for help came to his door. This time, he was off to the city of Lyon.

His life and medical career continues similarly until 1550, where he finally returns to Salon, his new wife and their recently refurbished home. It is here, with his new recognition and status, that Michel begins what he calls his true work, and his long planned series of annual Almanacs. This is the first time Michel begins to pen his work as "Nostradamus".

His yearly Almanacs included weather forecasts, planting and social calendars, sprinkled with predictions of political and military events. The success of his predictions in these mini-books earned Nostradamus the reputation of being a prophet. They were very popular and brought his family a good deal of wealth and prosperity.

Being a great healer and giving man through out his life, Nostradamus would share his vast fortune with his new home town. The problem with Salon was that it received to little rain for crops, plants and people alike. So Michel teamed up with a local architect and hydraulic engineer Adam de Craponne, to solve the problem. Michel put a great deal of his own money into the project to bring water from the Dehorns River through a series of networks and canals. Even after his death, his widow provided more funding to the project which was successfully completed, although it was way after the death of Michel Nostredame.

On May 17th 1791, the casket of Nostradamus was unearthed and opened by three grave robbers. It was said that whoever should drink wine from the skull of the great prophet would inherit his gift of future sight. But whoever should disturb his grave would die. The men should have been stunned and concerned when they opened the casket, 200 years after it was laid to rest, and found a plaque lying on the inhabitants chest inscribed with "May 1791". Undaunted in their desire to "be like Mike", one of the men removed the skull poured wine into the empty shell and drank from it. Within moments a stray bullet from a nearby skirmish of the French Revolution found it's way into the grave yard and killed the man. Once again, a Nostradamus prophecy came true.

As a young child, Michel wrote later in his life, he could see fragments of events that had not yet occurred. Within a few days or months, the fragments would play out for real and Michel would know the outcome of the event before it was concluded. He considered this a great gift bestowed upon him by the Divine God. For what reason, he wasn't sure; but he would grow to understand the meanings and purposes of his gift later in his life.

One of his earliest visions reportedly involved a chance meeting with a Franciscan fryer in Italy. Michel watched the fryer enter a small courtyard and approach a well for a drink. Michel walked up to the religious man and fell to his knees, kissing the hem of the fryers robe. When asked why he was paying such homage to a fryer, Nostradamus replied, "I must honor his holiness the pope". After the death of Nostradamus, the young fryer from the courtyard, Felice Peretti, was elected the Holy Pope of Rome taking on the name Sixtus the V.

Michel didn't receive great fame and recognition until he settled in Salon and began writing his annual almanacs. His accuracy became well known and respected, even amongst the circles of higher and royal society. He even took on clients and provided them with personal readings, as indicated by hundreds of correspondence found in his office after his death.

Michel then set out to create his books of prophecy. The first books were published in 1566, as The Prophecies of Nostradamus. They were not written in chronological order, or categorized by event. Rather they were written in a four line rhyming verse, called quatrains, in groups of 100 called centuries. He wrote most of the quatrains in his native French tongue, but he included Latin and Greek to protect himself from the superstitious and witch hunters of the day.

Edgar Cayce's Prediction

The sleeping prophet, as Cayce has been nicknamed, predicted the beginning and end of both the First and Second World Wars, and the lifting of the Depression in 1933.

In the 1920s, he first warned of coming racial strife in the United States, and in 1939 he predicted the deaths of two presidents in office; "Ye are to have turmoils -- ye are to have strife between capital and labor. Ye are to have a division in thy own land, before ye have the second of the Presidents that next will not live through his office... a mob rule!" President Franklin D. Roosevelt died in office in April 1945.

In November 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, when racial tensions in the United States were at their height. "Unless there is more give and take,"Cayce said, "consideration for those who produce, with better division of the excess profits from labor, there must be greater turmoil in the land."

In October 1935, Cayce spoke of the coming holocaust in Europe. The Austrians and Germans, he said, and later the Japanese, would take sides. "Thus an unseen force, gradually growing, must result in an almost direct opposition to the Nazi, or Aryan theme. This will gradually produce a growth of animosities. And unless there is interference by what many call supernatural forces and influences -- which are active in the affairs of nations and peoples -- the whole world as it were... will be set on fire by militaristic groups and people who are for power expansion."

Two of Cayce's major predictions concerned the futures of China and the Soviet Union, the world's great Communist giants. In 1944, he prophesied that China would one day be "the cradle of Christianity as applied in the lives of men."

Through Russia, he said "comes the hope of the world. Not in respect to what is sometimes termed Communism or Bolshevism -- no! But freedom -- freedom! That each man will live for his fellow man. The principle has been born there. It will take years for it to be crystallized; yet out of Russia comes again the hope of the world."

Russia, he said, would be guided by friendship with the United States. Its attempt to rule "not only the economic, but the mental and spiritual life" of its people was doomed to failure.

Cayce also predicted the possibility of a third world war. He spoke of strifes arising "near the Davis Straits," and "in Libya, and in Egypt, in Ankara, and in Syria; through the straits around those areas above Australia, in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf." When asked in June 1943 whether it would be feasible to work towards an international currency or a stabilization of international exchange levels when the war had ended, Cayce replied that it would be a long, long time before this would happen. Indeed, he said, "there may be another war over just such conditions."

Cayce believed in reincarnation. Each person, in his view, existed in a self-conscious form before birth and would exist again after death. As well as his health readings, Cayce gave many hundreds of so-called "life" readings, during which he would describe his subject's past lives. A number of those readings referred to past incarnations in the legendary lost land of Atlantis.

In all, Cayce referred to Atlantis no fewer than seven hundred times in his readings over a span of twenty years. He maintained that Atlantis had a civilization which was technologically superior to our own, and that its last surviving islands had disappeared in the area of the Caribbean some ten thousand years ago. His most specifically timed forecast was that Atlantis would rise again in 1968 or 1969. Needless to say, Cayce was wrong on that count. [Note: However, it was in that timeframe that the "Bimini Road" was located in the Atlantic Ocean. Whether this is a "road" or "natural, geologic erosion" is being hotly debated.]

Cayce said the size of Atlantis was equal to "that of Europe, including Asia in Europe." He saw visions of a continent which had gone through three major periods of division; the first two about 15,600 BCE, when the mainland was divided into islands. The three main islands Cayce named Poseida, Og and Aryan. He said the Atlanteans had constructed giant laser-like crystals for power plants, and that these had been responsible for the second destruction of the land.

Cayce blamed the final destruction on the disintegration of the Atlantean culture through greed and lust. But before the legendary land disappeared under the waves, Cayce believed there was an exodus of many Atlanteans through Egypt and further afield. Cayce attributed history's Great Flood in part to the sinking of the last huge remnants of Atlantis.

But Cayce's most striking predictions -- particularly in view of many other prophecies relating to the approaching end of the millennium -- concern dramatic changes in the Earth's surface in the period of 1958 to 1998. The cause of these he put down to a tilting in the Earth's rotational axis which he said would begin in 1936.

The first sign of this change in the Earth's core would be the "breaking up of some conditions" in the South Pacific and "sinking or rising" in the Mediterranean or Etna area. Cayce forecast that, by the end of the century, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco would be destroyed. He said that "the greater portion of Japan must go into the sea" at this time, and that northern Europe would be "changed as in the twinkling of an eye."

In 1941, Cayce predicted that lands would appear in the Atlantic and the Pacific in the coming years, and that "the coastline now of many a land will be the bed of the ocean. Even many of the battlefields of (1941) will be ocean, will be the sea, the bays, the lands over which the new order will carry on their trade as with one another." "Watch New York, Connecticut and the like. Many portions of the east coast will be disturbed, as well as many portions of the west coast, as well as the central portion of the United States. Los Angeles, San Francisco, most of all these will be among those that will be destroyed before New York, or New York City itself, will in the main disappear. This will be another generation though, here; while the southern portions of Carolina, Georgia, these will disappear. This will be much sooner. The waters of the Great Lakes will empty into the Gulf of Mexico."

Cayce prophesied that the Earth's axis would be shifted by the year 2001, bringing on reversals in climate, "so that where there has been a frigid or semi-tropical climate, there will be a more tropical one, and moss and fern will grow." By this time, he indicated, a new cycle would begin.

Edgar Cayce's last reading on 17 September 1944, was for himself. He was now receiving thousands of requests for assistance. His own readings had repeatedly warned him that he should not try to undertake more than two sessions a day. But many of the letters he received were from mothers worried about their sons on the battlefields, and Cayce felt he could not refuse them his aid. His last reading told him that the time had come for him to stop working and rest. On New Year's Day, 1945, he announced that he would be buried on the fifth of January. He was right.

Ten years earlier, Cayce had written a brief account of his work. In it, he said, "The life of a person endowed with such powers is not easy. For more than forty years now I have been giving readings to those who came seeking help. Thirty-five years ago the jeers, scorn and laughter were even louder than today. I have faced the laughter of ignorant crowds, the withering scorn of tabloid headlines, and the cold smirk of self-satisfied intellectuals. But I have also known the wordless happiness of little children who have been helped, the gratitude of fathers and mothers and friends... I believe that the attitude of the scientific world is gradually changing towards these subjects."

Earth Changes
Edgar Cayce predicted that the Great Lakes would empty into the Gulf of Mexico in the future and that ancient repositories would be discovered when people reached the appropriate level of consciousness. The three repositories mentioned are Egypt, the Bimini area, and the Yucatan.

"The earth will be broken up in the western portion of America. The greater portion of Japan must go into the sea. The upper portion of Europe will be changed as in the twinkling of an eye. Land will appear off the east coast of America. When there is the first breaking up of some conditions in the South Sea and those as apparent in the sinking or rising of that that's almost opposite same, or in the Mediterranean, and the Etna area, then we many know it has begun."

"If there are greater activities in Vesuvius or Pelee, then the southern coast of California and the areas between Salt Lake and the southern portions of Nevada, we may expect, within the three months following same, inundation by the earthquakes. But these are to be more in the Southern than the Northern Hemisphere."

"There will be the upheavals in the Arctic and in the Antarctic that will make for the eruption of volcanoes in the torrid areas, and there will be the shifting then of the poles -- so that where there has been those of a frigid or the semi-tropical will become the more tropical, and moss and fern will grow. "

As to conditions in the geography of the world, of the country -- changes here are gradually coming about. No wonder, then, that the entity feels the need, the necessity for change of central location. For, many portions of the east coast will be disturbed, as well as many portions of the west coast, as well as the central portion of the U.S.

In the next few years land will appear in the Atlantic as well as in the Pacific. And what is the coast line now of many a land will be the bed of the ocean. Even many battle fields of the present will be ocean, will be the seas, the bays, the lands over which The New World Order will carry on their trade as one with another.

"Portions of the now east coast of New York, or New York City itself, will in the main disappear. This will be another generation, though, here; while the southern portions of Carolina, Georgia -- these will disappear. This will be much sooner. The waters of the lakes will empty into the Gulf, rather than the waterway over which such discussions have been recently made. It would be well if the waterway were prepared, but not for that purpose for which it is at present being considered. Then the area where the entity is now located (Virginia Beach) will be among the safety lands, as will be portions of what is now Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, and much of the southern portion of Canada and the eastern portion of Canada; while the western land -- much of that is to be disturbed as, of course much in other lands."

"Strifes will arise through the period. Watch for them near the Davis Strait in the attempts there for the keeping of the life line to land open. Watch for them in Libya and in Egypt, in Ankara and in Syria, through the straits about those areas above Australia, in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf."

It is also understood, comprehended by some that a new order of conditions is to arise; there must be a purging in high places as well as low; and that there must be the greater consideration of the individual, so that each soul being his brother's keeper. Then certain circumstances will come about in the political, the economic, and whole relationships to which a leveling will occur or a greater comprehension of the need for it. "... for changes are coming, this may be sure -- an evolution or revolution in the ideas of religious thought.

The basis of it for the world will eventually come out of Russia. Not communism, no! But rather that which is the basis of the same as the Christ taught -- his kind of communism."

For with the change, it [Atlantis] must rise again. Then [it lies] between the Sphinx and the river. (378-16; Oct 29, 1933)" In several of his readings, Cayce stated that the survivors of the lost continent of Atlantis had brought with them records relating to their earliest history.

These, he said, were carefully buried in a secret chamber somewhere near to the Great Sphinx, which stands guard like a sentinel over the Pyramids of Giza. A second set of these records was taken, he said, by other survivors of the disaster to be buried somewhere in the Yucatan area of Mexico. He also said that a third set of records still resides in the heart of Atlantis itself.
